TED 2006

The highlight of the evening was hearing Al Gore’s Global Warming presentation at the close of the first night of speakers. He had some pretty amazing facts about Global Warming that I was not aware of. I had always been confused as to the washyness of this issue. I kept thinking, ‘well things are cyclic, right?’ No. Gore had data from the south pole going back 650,000 years!!! Well before Adam & Eve walked this earth. And it all points to drastic changes in just the last 30 years. His presentation was a real eye-opener on the damage that we’re doing and what’s gonna happen over the next 40 years.
A new film, An Inconvenient Truth, about Gore and this issue is to be released May 26. The film was started a little over a year ago, when Laurie David (Larry’s wife) saw a similiar presentation by Gore.
The pitch is slightly different the ozone hole we were all worrying about 15 years ago. Global warming is running rampant because of our emissions (CO2) trapping the sun’s ray’s in our atmosphere so that they raise the avg. temperture of the earth.
Some facts:
CO2 Levels
Northern Hemisphere avg. tempertures
650,000 years of C02 and temperture correlations. And their projections over the next 40 years:
I had really hoped to find a video of this presentation online because I think everybody should watch it, unfortunally I couldn’t. I did find the transcript of an earlier presentation. I’m assuming An Inconvenient Truth will do a great job in getting the message out, so look for it in May.
