LinkedIn goes public

Or at least your LinkedIn profile can now be public.  Yes, this may be trival to some, but I think it’s an excellent step.  By default your profile is not exposed, but now you can ‘turn-on’ how much you would like the world to see.  You can pick your URL extension as well.  A few of the reasons I think this is beneficial:

  • Users can now put this info in their email signatures, that’s free advertisng for linkedin
  • People can throw this on their personal business cards.  I don’t come across many people with websites listed, just their email, but this is pretty valuable information to augment your typical business card.
  • It allows people unfamiliar with the service to get a better understanding of what it has to offer.
